Activities
Check out a description
of the activities SWE Officers have participated in or planned
for Baylor Engineering and Computer Science Students. To
see pictures of these events, see our Slideshows!
Officer Retreat |
At
the end of last year, we organized an officer retreat,
inviting all new and old officers along with our
counselor and sponsor. The purpose of the retreat
was to build leadership team unity for the upcoming
year of activities while providing guidance and
instruction for officer duties and responsibilies.
Team building games were played throughout the event
between group discussions and snacks. With support
from those experienced, each newly inducted officer
was given the opportunity to ask questions and express
new and innovative ideas. Click here for more pictures |

Beach
Bash
|
|
At
the beginning of the Fall semester during the first
week of classes, SWE co-hosted the First Annual
Back-To-School Beach Bash. The festivity provided
an opportunity for all of the Engineering and Computer
Science students to have fun and prepare for the
upcoming academic year. We turned the lawn of our
building into a Hawaiian island, complete with leis,
a waterfall, and a roasted pig. Live music was provided
and an inflatable slip-and-slide and bungee-run were rented. The
faculty also participated in the activities, as
many played volleyball with their students and some
even volunteered to sit in our dunking booth. Our
luau was the biggest event of the Fall semester,
promoting camaraderie and unity within our department.

Bowling Night |
Bowling
night was planned in order to recruit new members
into SWE and to encourage old members to come out,
have a good time and get to know one another better.
This event was very successful in that it gave members
and non-members a chance to mingle, take their focus
of work, and relax. The big theme behind the event
was to let everyone know that SWE is not only for
women, but men also and that this society does do
exciting things outside of school and classroom
work. The event triggered new associations among
people who had not really spoken much to each other
except for at meetings. This event also contributed
to our membership because people saw that we are
very versatile as well as diverse. Click here for more pictures |

Deli Dinner |
|
At
the height of finals week at Baylor University,
our chapter of the Society of Women Engineers decided
it would be an opportune time to take a study break,
enjoy each other's company, meet new members, and
eat some good food. Due to the low amount of funds
college students live on these days and the time-limited
study break our studious and ambitious students
were restricted to, we decided to hold the event
at a local favorite - a deli located across from
campus. This allowed for a high attendance represented
by most members and a few newcomers. The event allowed
for fellowship with members and officers and a time
of closure for our organization to discuss our group's
success this semester and goals for the next. |

Mr.
SWE
|
The
Mr. SWE Pageant was designed to promote male students
in Engineering and Computer Science to become
involved in and supportive of SWE. Baylor University
is privileged to have small classes especially
in the engineering and computer science communities
and the Baylor chapter of SWE wanted to incorporate
the male students to enjoy the benefits of being
a SWE member and supporter. The Mr. SWE candidates
are nominated by SWE members to participate in
the pageant. Pageant categories consist of games
that incorporate curriculum from engineering and
computer science. The pageant is open to SWE and
non-SWE members. We have prizes for Mr. SWE, the
First-Runner-Up, Second-Runner-Up, Third-Runner-Up,
and for Mr. Congeniality that include supermarket
gift certificates, flower cookie bouquets, a home-cooked
meal prepared by the officers of the winners’
choice, and a golden computer-parts crown for
Mr. SWE. |

Engineering
Week
|
|
Last
year SWE co-sponsored a celebration of National
Engineer's week. This event was held outside the
Engineering and Computer Science building and
at other locations on campus. The main event was
the "Battle of the Societies". Five
technical organizations (ABB, ACM, ASME, IEEE
and SWE) participated and sponsored one comptetion.
The different competitions included builiding
paper airplanes, bowling, intellectual contest,
etc. This informal event provided an opportunity
for both Engineering and Computer Science students
to get to know one another outside the classroom.
A T-shirt like the one Michelle is wearing was
designed specifically for the event. |
