Abstract
Abstract: In our cars, we can always count on the fuel gauge to tell us how much gas remains in the tank. When it comes to batteries, though, knowing “how much is in the tank” is a much trickier problem. For battery chemistries with relatively flat state-of-charge versus voltage curves, an emerging approach is to design model-based dynamic state observers. This talk explores how the theory of dynamic equations on time scales can yield observer designs that increase state-of-charge estimation accuracy while decreasing parasitic power demands.
