Abstract:
Dr. Schubert will present his work in developing Proton Computed Tomography (pCT), a new medical imaging modality that uses less radiation and improves the accuracy of imaging for ion radiation treatment. pCT requires fast tracking and pre-processing for each of the 100 million protons used to image a human head, then the resulting sparse system must be solved in a total of 5-10 minutes. Hardware and software techniques to solve this large system of equation will be discussed as well as the next steps and the many opportunities to get involved.
